Bienvenue! Core French 30 is a virtual learning experience where students will use 21st century technology to explore the French language making learning innovative and fun.  Students have access to a qualified and experienced teacher along with the freedom to learn wherever and whenever it is convenient for them.  This course will explore the French language in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing with the goal of igniting a passion for language and culture.  This is an interactive course where students will become members of a learning community that explores content and participate in a variety of collaborative French activities.

Course Description:

Life Transitions 30 is an interactive course designed to prepare students for transitioning beyond high school.  Units of study covered in this course include Orientation, Personal Self-Knowledge, Relationships, Time Management and Career Self-Knowledge.  Optional units of study include Life Balance and Career Services and Supports.  This course has been designed to prepare students for life outside of the K-12 system by providing them with information and learning opportunities that will serve as a basis for transitioning into their next stage of life.

Course Description:

Law is considered to be part of social science education, which refers to the disciplines that deal with the characteristic elements of human society. The Law 30 course is designed to assist students to become active, informed and productive citizens who know and understand their legal rights and responsibilities. Through the course, students develop an understanding of the concept of rule of law, and learn that the law reflects, and is shaped by, society's values and attitudes regarding social and human relationships. The course begins by developing students' understanding of the abstract nature of law, its sources and purposes. The abstract nature of law is made relevant through study of the concrete application of law to current legal issues in Canada and the global community. Topics addressed include foundations of Canada's legal system, criminal and civil law, family law, employment and labour law, contract and consumer law, environmental law and international law.

Course Description:

Creative Writing 20 provides opportunities for students to refine their creative writing skills and abilities beyond those developed in the required English language arts courses. This course encourages students to see creative writing as a unique way of thinking, and as a means of constructing and conveying meaning.

This course is an interactive online course where students will be members of a learning community that fosters creativity and expression.  Guided by an experienced and dedicated teacher, students will have the opportunity to develop and grow their writing talents.

Course Description:

Ce cours intégré a comme préalable le cours Français immersion 10. Il est conçu de manière à permettre une grande flexibilité car il peut être offerts soit en 11e année, soit en 12e année.

Français immersion intégré A20 diffère des cours réguliers en ce que l'étude de la langue est intégrée à d'autres disciplines enseignées au niveau secondaire mais qui ne sont pas toujours accessibles aux élèves d'immersion.

Ce cours présente deux unités modèles:

  •                                                                              LE CINÉMA;
  •                                                                              LA SOCIOLOGIE.

C'est dans le but de favoriser une utilisation de la langue française dans des situations de communication authentiques autres que celles associées au cours de langue que ce programme d'études propose une approche multidisciplinaire. L'objectif principal de cette approche est de permettre à l'élève d'améliorer ses compétences pour véritablement communiquer en français.

Course Description:

Foundations of Mathematics and Pre-Calculus 10 is a pre-requisite for both the Foundations Math and the Pre-Calculus Math in Grade 11. It introduces and/or focuses on the following concepts: factoring, rational and irrational numbers, laws of exponents, operations with polynomials, trigonometry, relations and functions, slope, linear relations, graphing, linear systems, the metric system and imperial measurements.

Course Description:

This is a course that examines contemporary Canadian Aboriginal issues. The units in this course include Aboriginal and Treaty Rights, Governance, Land Claims and Treaty Land Entitlements, Economic Development and Social Development.

The Goals of the Native Studies 30 course are to have students:

·  Appreciate the influence of Aboriginal peoples on the development of Canada.

·  Understand contemporary issues and their historical basis.

·  Understand the continuing influence of Indian and Métis philosophy on the relationships between humans and their environment.

·  Increase knowledge and understanding of Indigenous peoples.

·  Acquire and apply the skills of critical thinking.

·  Develop an understanding of their own cultural group and a sensitivity to other cultural groups.

·  Function effectively within their own and other cultural groups.

·  Develop a positive self-identity.

Course Description:

Psychology 20 is the study of human behaviour and mental processes in a social context.   It is a course designed to guide the students to a better understanding of themselves as individuals in their own right, and as part of the larger social context of their families, friends, and citizens of their country in a global community.   Psychology 20 is a course that emphasizes the application of concepts about behaviour in a variety of social contexts and situations, while guiding the students to consider the seminal question of social psychologists:   How are the thoughts, feelings and behaviours of people influenced by the actual, imagined or implied presence of others?   (Alcock, Carment and Sadava, 1998, p. 11).
