The Workplace and Apprenticeship Mathematics pathway meets the needs of students intending to pursue careers in some of the trades and in the general workplace.

Course Description: 

 

The goals of the ELA A20 course are to develop students' English language abilities and thought processes through a variety of literature activities.  Through the two major themes of Recollection and Anticipation students will develop skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading.  As the course progresses students will be encouraged to enjoy, appreciate and respond to the literature in a meaningful manner.

Course Description:  The main topics in this course are trigonometry, conics, and mathematical proofs.  Trigonometry study includes trigonomic ratios, radian measure, graphing, amplitude, period, phase shift, law of sines, law of cosines, and trigonomic identities and equations.  Conics study includes graphing and determining the equations of the circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola, as well as solving systems of conics and looking at applications of conics.  Mathematical proofs include inductive and deductive reasoning, and various styles of mathematical proof: integer property proofs, deductive geometry proofs, indirect proofs, coordinate geometry proofs, and proofs by mathematical induction.

Mathematics B30 and C30 may be taken concurrently.  Credit for Mathematics C30 is only granted after successful completion of Mathematics B30.

Course Description:

Course Description:

The focus in Accounting 20 is on financial accounting and the generally accepted accounting principles used in accounting reports.  This course helps students develop a working knowledge of accounting for business or for personal use.  It is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop a basic understanding of the accounting cycle as it relates to a merchandising firm.

 

Students will develop problem-solving and decision-making skills used to intrepret accounting and financial information associated with a merchandising firm.  They will prepare financial records, bank reconciliations, individual income tax returns, and learn how taxes are levied by federal, provincial, and municipal governments.
