PREREQUISITE: Mathematics 20

Mathematics A30 is the first of the grade 12 maths. Most commonly, this math is taken in the grade 11 year so that the student will be able to take the other grade 12 maths and possibly calculus.

This course is usually considered a step forward in difficulty from Math 20. However, doing the work in a consistent manner will assure success.

The units in this course include:

1. Systems of Equations
2. Data Analysis
3. Functions
4. Factoring and Rational Expressions
5. Exponents and Radicals
6. Combinatorics (Counting)
7. Trigonometry

Math courses require a consistent effort and the course has many "daily" assignments. Stay on top of your work and you will succeed. This is possible.

The course also includes information gathering on the net, chat room usage, bulletin boards, e-mail, and general net manners. As with most of the cyber courses, the abilities to learn independently and keep yourself motivated are prudent.

Course Description:

This course is different from the Math A30 and Math B30 courses in that the main focus is not on algebra; instead the focus is on trigonometry. This new focus will mean some initial difficulty but my experience has shown that students who finish the Math C30 course generally have better marks than they did in Math B30. If you do the work in a consistent manner, you will succeed in this course.

The units in this course include:

1. Circles
2. Circular Functions
3. Triangles
4. Identities
5. Conics
6. Proof

Math courses require a consistent effort and the course has many "daily" assignments. This is the first online math course that I have designed to give consistent feedback at a question by question basis. Stay on top of your work and you will succeed. You can do it!.

The course also includes information gathering on the net, chat room usage, bulletin boards, e-mail, and general net manners. As with most of the cyber courses, the abilities to learn independently and keep yourself motivated are prudent.

Every once in awhile, we feel things so deeply that we just need to write them down in a poem or a song or a paragraph. Every once in awhile, we get this creative surge of imagination that enables us to come up with a story that just needs to be written down.

Creative Writing 20 taps into the feelings and imaginations of individuals, and motivates and encourages them to "create." As an elective course, it is designed to be fun, stimulating and challenging.

Because the course is strictly "creative", all evaluation will be based on individual writing assignments. There will be no exams in the class, and hopefully, at the conclusion of the class, we will be able to publish an anthology of the writings of each of our class members.

The world of communications is changing continuously. With the explosion of YouTube, Facebook, social networks and the internet, the way we communicate with each other has eliminated the barriers of time and distatnce. The Technology we use in our daily lives is changing the communications landscape with such things in cellular video phones, blogs, bluetooth, and wireless networking. This course will utilize some of these concepts in assembling a student portfolio of works.

Communication Production Technology 20 is an intermediate
course, building on the skills and technology introduced in CPT 10.
This course will incorporate more advanced skills and technology in the combined areas of video, audio and multimedia. Students will take a behind the scenes look at a major Hollywood production film, to appreciate the importance of the preproduction planning, production and post production editing, in completing a final production of their own. The course also includes exploration of communication strategies and delivery on the internet in the world of social networking.

For the purpose of this course, students should have access to a method of recording video. This could be a video camera or video cell phone. They should also have access to a computer capable of
loading video for the purpose of editing and internet publication.
In the interest of cost and portability, we will make use of many free and powerful open source applications available on the internet.

Course Description:

The animation course is an introductory course to the world of animation.  The course is essentially divided into four parts.  The first part looks at the history of animation including biographies of individuals like Walt Disney, Hana Barbara and so on.  From that introduction we look at generating our own animations including still frame and stop motion animations.  For these sections, a digital still camera and camera capable of recording video are required.  These sections split into still frame and stop motion units. The last section  has students work in the area of computer generated animation.  For this section we use an open source (free) application Blender (http://www.blender.org.  This is a very intensive section as there is a great deal to learn about the application Blender. Computer generated animation can seem intimidating to some, but typically students with the skills and abilities to participate in cyberschool have little trouble with the computer animation portion.  The final requirement of the course is to create a final project utilizing one, two or all three of the methods investigated.  The hardware requirements would include a mac or PC computer, a still digital camera, a video camera or still camera capable of recording small bits of video.  Most of the software we use is free, opensource with the exception of iMovie on the mac and/or Moviemaker on the PC.  Typically most computers will come with these included.  If not, we can make arrangements to have this provided.

Course Description:

ELA B10 is an outcomes based course that explores language in all of its forms and contexts organized under two thematic headings.  Equity and Ethics is the focus for the first half of the course; The World Within and Around Us is the theme for the second half.  The outcomes for B10 target Comprehending and Responding, Composing and Creating, as well as Assessing and Reflecting.  Indicators leading to the achieved outcomes form the foundation for each lesson and assignment package the student works through in this course.  Student self assessment is an integral part of the lessons, and allows for students to monitor their own progress in meeting the outcomes.  There is a final comprehensive examination that is a requirement of the course; the final lesson package contains a review for that exam.  Two resources are required for this course:
